An intimate portrait of four volunteer voter protection workers who travel to North Carolina in 2016 to work the first presidential election since the gutting of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Concerned citizens often dream about fighting injustice, but few find a path to do it.  In November 2016, four good friends journey to Cumberland County, North Carolina – ground zero for new voting restrictions – to volunteer for voter protection work at the polls.  As the national election unfolds around them in this tightly controlled district, our foursome comes face to face with the complex and covert game of restricting access to the polls and the denial of democracy’s most sacred promise to its citizens: the right to vote.
